EDINBURG - Historian R. David Edmunds will present the 2012 Rondel Davidson lecture on Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. at the Library Auditorium on the UTPA Edinburg campus.

As the nation approaches the bicentennial of the War of 1812, the Rondel V. Davidson Endowment and the History Program at the University of Texas-Pan American are pleased to announce that eminent Native American historian R. David Edmunds will be delivering the 2012 Rondel Davidson Lecture on the topic Tippecanoe: Tecumseh's Turning Point.

The talk will focus on the ways in which the first battle in the War of 1812 marked a significant turning point for Indian leaders Tecumseh and Tenskwatawa and for their effort to unite Transappalachian Indians into a nation of their own. For Native Americans, the "Second War for American Independence" became the last war for national autonomy.

The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. on Feb. 23 in the Library Auditorium on the University of Texas-Pan American Campus. A question and answer period will follow the lecture.
