HIDALGO COUNTY - The Honduran government is condemning the attack on three women who were crossing the border. The Feds say border patrol agent Esteban Manzanares cut the wrists of an adult woman, assaulted one teenager and kidnapped another earlier this week.

A federal law enforcement official says the women were surrendering by the river when the assault began. Police later found Manzanares dead inside his apartment. Officials say he committed suicide early Thursday morning. The teenage girl he kidnapped was found alive in that same apartment.

The Honduran embassy in Washington D.C. says the agent assaulted a mother, her teenage daughter and another girl who was traveling with them.

In a statement, the Honduran Foreign Ministry says they quote.. "Strongly condemn the moral, emotional and physical aggression," by that agent.

The ministry also asked the U.S. government for a thorough investigation, along with psychological and medical assistance, financial compensation and legal immigration status for the victims.
