HIDALGO COUNTY - A Mexican national on Friday was convicted in a human smuggling case.

Adan Garcia Figueroa was found guilty on two counts of smuggling illegal immigrants into the United States.

He also was convicted on one count of illegally re-entering the county after deportation.

Court records show Garcia used a raft to smuggle 12 to 17 illegal immigrants into the United States.

Garcia claimed he was retrieving some fishing nets. He will be sentence in January.
