MCALLEN - House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is the latest high profile politician to visit the immigration children at the Border Patrol facilities.
CHANNEL FIVE's Lauren Kendrick went to a shelter to see what illegal immigrants have to say about politicians visiting.
Since we've been reporting on the surge of illegal immigrants coming into the Rio Grande Valley, we've told you about the living quarters these immigrants are staying in.
We've seen pictures of cramped rooms full of people, some sleeping on the floor.
Today we talked to a woman who crossed the border illegally and was being housed at a Border Patrol facility.
She's now staying at a church until she can leave.
She said she doesn't think these politicians visiting the Valley is making a difference.
The First Lady from Honduras, I don't understand why she came. She doesn't do anything. They don't do anything because if you watch the news everyday in Honduras it's the same...deaths, deaths, deaths," she said.
She talked to us about the Border Patrol facility she stayed in for a few days, saying it was a horrible experience.
"It was ugly. You sleep on the floor, without a pillow, without a blanket and it was dirty, dirty, dirty," she said. "So many people there, we couldn't fit. We slept sitting down. There wasn't any space."
North Carolina is her destination. She says that's still a dream for now, not knowing what lies ahead.
