DONNA - Police are looking for two persons of interest in the attack of a Donna High School senior Friday in Corpus Christi.
The teenager is recovering in a Corpus Christi hospital, Donna school officials said.
The student traveled with the school to watch Donna's playoff match against Laredo Alexander. He was attacked at the stadium, police said.
Donna Independent School District Superintendant Roberto Loredo visited the teen in the hospital Monday.
"What I do know is that this was an assault by somebody in the Corpus Christi area. An assault on one of our students possibly just to steal his phone," Loredo said in a telephone interview.
"He is feeling good. ... I'm assuming (he's) tired from everything," Loredo said.
Corpus Christi Independent School District police said the student was hit repeatedly on the forehead. The attack left him with head trauma.
Loredo spoke about the district's safety policy.
"We take our own people, our sponsors, our teachers, our administrators, our police officers ... they were there. I don't know, relative to where this happened, I don't know where they were," he said.
Loredo said the case remains under investigation.
