Investigators Back at Scene of Deadly DPS Shooting

HIDALGO COUNTY - State and federal investigators are back at the site of a deadly shooting north of La Joya.
The shooting happened while Texas Department of Public Safety troopers were assisting game wardens in a pursuit. The chase ended at FM 2221 and Mile 7.
A TxDPS helicopter crew opened fire on a truck loaded with immigrants. Recordings of communications between the crew and the troopers on the ground revealed the helicopter crew believed the truck was loaded with drug bundles.
Two people died and two were injured.
