MCALLEN - A couple who admitted to punching and kicking their toddler was charged with injury to a child. They're each being held on a $100,000 bond.

Hidalgo County sheriff's deputies began investigating, when they were called to the McAllen Medical Center Friday. A 3-year-old had bruises throughout her body and a skull fracture.

Investigators visited the child's home in Weslaco and spoke to her parents. Deputies say the girl's mother, Maria Alma Zuniga, admitted to tying up the toddler and punching her in the head and body several times. Zuniga allegedly told investigators she abused her daughter in the past because the girl would misbehave.

Deputies say Jose Luis Reyes, the girl's father, admitted to kicking the 3-year-old in the head and repeatedly kicking her on the body. He said she was being too loud. Reyes also allegedly stated he had tied up his daughter with a rope and beat her for misbehaving.

The 3-year-old remains in stable condition at McAllen Medical Center.
