GEAR UP students who live along the Gulf of Mexico in Port Isabel have gone high tech. Thanks to the Region One partnership with Apple, facilitators say iPads are making a difference.
Angela de la Mar..is a Port Isabel Junior High GEAR UP facilitator and she's excited these days. Her GEAR UP students have just been issued brand new iPads and the kids love it.
All of these students agree; iPads have made learning and getting ready for college a whole lot more fun.
The educators agree and tell us it's made a difference in the classroom.
De la Mar says the iPads are encouraging students to delve in to our history in a more creative way.
Dorothy Gonzalez checked out the iPad cart and she used it to teach the bill of rights to students and so the students partnered up. They had to prepare five slides with pictures and audio and they had to do research and had to do a class presentation.
De la Mar says it's the hands on learning that is making the big difference.
