Johnson and Taylor lead US Diving Winter Nationals

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Steele Johnson led the men's 10-meter competition and Maren Taylor was first in women's 3-meter at the U.S. Diving Winter Nationals on Thursday.

Johnson, a two-time national platform champion from Carmel, Ind., totaled 956.45 points through the preliminary and semifinal rounds to take a 124.6-point lead into the finals. He scored more than 80 points on four dives in the semis, including 91.80 on a reverse 3 tuck in the fifth round at the University of Texas.

David Dinsmore of New Albany, Ohio, was second at 831.85. Toby Stanley of Conway, Ark., was third at 802.90.

Taylor, a Texas senior from Arlington, Va., was first with 619.20 in the 3-meter contest.

Casey Matthews of Getzville, N.Y., was second at 576.50.
