EDINBURG - A judge has recused himself from hearing the case of a 15-year-old accused in the murder of nine illegal immigrants. The decision came after prosecutors requested a new judge hear the case.

The teen's trial was delayed again Wednesday after Judge Jesse Contreras announced he would not hear the case.

The immigrants died after a high-speed chase on April 10 in Palmview. The teen was allegedly driving a van full of immigrants when it flipped over.

The teenager has been sitting in jail for more than seven months. Wednesday's recusal means the trial will be moved to another court.

Prosecutors want the teen tried as an adult. That part of the trial was set to start today.

Contreras said he recused himself because the trial has been delayed long enough. He said challenging the prosecutors' request would have delayed proceedings for months.
