HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) Convicted killer Anthony Haynes is looking to the U.S. Supreme Court to block his scheduled execution for the slaying 14 years ago of an off-duty Houston police sergeant.
Attorneys for the 33-year-old inmate went to the high court after the Texas parole board and lower federal courts refused this week to halt his lethal injection set for Thursday evening in Huntsville.
Haynes was with three companions in a truck and already had robbed several people the night of the 1998 killing. Kent Kincaid was with his wife when their vehicle was hit by something from the truck. When Kincaid got out to talk to those in the truck and told them he was an officer, he was gunned down.
Haynes' lethal injection would be the 11th this year in Texas.
