CAMERON COUNTY - La Feria's Park Girl is in a Cameron County jail facing four counts of felony theft.

The judge set Jo Leigh Ares' bond at $1.2 million, which is $300,000 for each count of felony theft. Ares made her first court appearance in the Valley on Thursday morning.

She was previously arrested in Idaho and released on bond. She left behind several felony arrest warrants and dozens of customers without mobile homes when she left Texas.

The La Feria police chief asked the judge for no or high bond Thursday. The chief says Ares has already proven she's willing to flee the state.

Ares turned herself in to police in Hondo on Wednesday. She explained her fugitive status to the judge Thursday.

"I'm out on bond with a fugitive to Idaho and I appeared at my court hearing and it was postponed. And my next court date is in January. And I did turn myself in, so I feel I'm not a flight risk," says Ares.

The Cameron County constable and La Feria's police chief wrote warrants for Ares' arrest. Both say they are pleased with the high bond.

Ares would not comment after the arraignment.
