LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. (AP) La Grange won the $100,000 Cinderella Stakes for 2-year-olds by 2 3/4 lengths on closing day of Los Alamitos' brief summer meet on Sunday.

Ridden by Hall of Famer Kent Desormeaux, La Grange ran six furlongs in 1:09.92 and paid $10.60, $2.80 and $2.10 as the 4-1 second choice. The daughter of Curlin is trained by Desormeaux's brother Keith.

Heart of Paradise returned $2.10 and $2.10 as the 1-5 favorite. Slew's Charm was another 3 3/4 lengths back in third and paid $2.40 to show.

La Grange has career earnings of $67,200 since being purchased for $17,000 at last year's Keeneland September sale.

In the $98,000 Willard L. Proctor Memorial Stakes, Story to Tell defeated favorite Bad Read Sanchez by 1 lengths.

Ridden by Joe Talamo, Story to Tell ran six furlongs in 1:10.28 and paid $5.20 and $2.40. The 2-year-old colt has earned $118,600 in his career.

"He's a nice colt and he looks even better when he runs," trainer Dan Hendricks said. "It's special to win this race. Willard Proctor gave me my first job at the track. I started galloping horses for him at Hollywood Park in 1976."

Bad Read Sanchez returned $2.40. Litigation Road was another 3 lengths back in third. There was no show wagering after the field was reduced to four with two scratches.

Jockey Joe Steiner, who finished fourth aboard Peradventure, claimed foul against both Talamo and Mario Gutierrez, the rider of Bad Read Sanchez, for alleged interference, but it was dismissed by the stewards.
