La Joya ISD, Mission CISD Offering Free Meals to Students throughout Summer

WESLACO – A Rio Grande Valley school districts are stepping up to make sure children within their district are fed throughout the summer.

La Joya Independent School District will be offering free meals to children who rely on school meals during the academic year.

Mission Consolidated Independent School District will also be offering free meals to students in the district.

The service is part of the Summer Seamless Option program; children must be 18 years of age or younger.

“Our children need good nutrition year-round so they can learn, grow and succeed in life,” said Galina Reyes, the child nutrition services director for La Joya ISD.

The La Joya ISD says they’ll be partnering with the Texas Department of Agriculture to serve breakfast and lunch across the school district.

If any La Joya ISD family is interested, they can find a meal site by calling 2-1-1, visiting SummerFood.org or text FOODTX to 877-877.

Mission CISD will be expanding to more locations compared to previous years; they’re including special buses that have been converted into mobile cafeterias.
