AUSTIN - State lawmakers from the Rio Grande Valley on Monday filed a bill that would allow the merger of three schools.
House Bill 1000 calls for the merger of the University of Texas at Brownsville, the University of Texas-Pan American and the Regional Academic Health Center.
State Rep. Rene Oliveira signed the bill and filed it for consideration. The bill will need two-thirds approval. The senate version of the legislation, Senate Bill 24 also was filed on Monday.
Oliveira said the bill should face little opposition.
