HIDALGO COUNTY - La Villa school officials said layoffs may be necessary to pay for the district's most recent water bill.
La Villa Independent School District officials said the city is charging them $17,000 for one month's service. They said most districts their size pay about $2,000 a month.
School officials said La Villa officials passed the latest rate increase without the required advance notice or public hearing.
The city said they need the money to pay for a multi-million dollar expansion to the sewage system.
La Villa ISD officials said they will consult with attorneys about their next move in dealing with the water bill.
