HIDALGO - Aaron Lee's score on the power play, part of a three goal barrage in the third period, was the game-winner in a 3-1 comeback win for the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (26-26-7) over the Laredo Bucks (23-32-2) on Wednesday night at State Farm Arena. The victory not only evens the Bees' season record at .500, it extends the standings lead to three points over idle Tulsa for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Berry Conference. Laredo scored the only goal of the first 40 minutes near the end of the first period. Kyle Mariani lit the lamp for a 1-0 Bucks' lead. The Bees didn't get rolling until the third period. Zac Pearson tied the game with a short-handed goal at 2:56. Lee gave the locals the lead with his power play score at 5:34. Tomas Klempa iced the victory by also scoring with a man advantage in the final minute of the game. The Bees continue to get strong play from their net minders. John Murray stopped 32 shots to record the victory. The lead in the playoff race is thin for the locals, even at three points, because the Bees have played three more games than the Tulsa Oilers. But, the schedule, save for a three game road trip next week to the midwest, still includes four games at home - two with last place Arizona and two more with Laredo.
