MCALLEN - Sgt. Fernando De La Rosa died in Afghanistan last month. Friends and family who are touched by his selflessness showed up for his last homecoming.

Friends and family watched silently as Sgt. Fernando De La Rosa's casket was carried off the plane. Conie Reyes can't believe her nephew is gone.

She says her nephew's death hit everyone hard, but she knows he believed in his mission and his country.

Family members aren't the only ones reeling from De La Rosa's death. We found his neighbor also waiting for his body to arrive. She was in tears, thinking about all the soldiers who put themselves in danger, including her nephew.

Those who knew De La Rosa say he knew the sacrifice he might have to make. On the back of his aunt's t-shirt was a poem he wrote about a soldier's last inspection before God.

They all hoped De La Rosa would never become the soldier in the poem.

De La Rosa leaves behind his wife and two children.
