HIDALGO COUNTY - Alfredo Murillo considers himself a spiritual guide; an expert in many religions and faiths, even in what he calls dark and white magic.

Murillo keeps some necklaces nearby. He says they offer protection against what police found in a San Juan home earlier this week. We showed Murillo pictures of pots with human remains, African idols, ritualistic paintings; all items that were found during the home raid.

Murillo says they're all symbols from the Yoruba Religion. It's related to the Afro-Cuban following called Palo Mayombe.

Murillo says Palo Mayombe is black magic; one of the darkest forms of Santeria.

They use people's clothes and bones in large pots, Murillo says. Its followers believe human and animal sacrifices help destroy enemies. Investigators believe these rituals were meant to keep police away from Ruben Fonseca's home.

Palo Mayombe is growing in popularity among criminals, turning deadly at times. It made headlines in the late 80s with the murder of Mark Kilroy. He was one of several killed by a Matamoros Palo cult.

Murillo wants people to know that these cults are spreading through Valley streets.
