PORT ISABEL - A Port Isabel man who left the scene of a deadly accident is facing a more serious charge.

Alejandro Bernal Petricioli was charged with intoxicated manslaughter.

The 51-year-old was already in custody for failure to stop and render aid. Police say he was driving a truck that hit and killed Reyna Hernandez Garcia.

The accident happened in Port Isabel Tuesday night. Petricioli is accused of leaving the scene. Police found him at his home a short time later.

Authorities tell CHANNEL 5 NEWS the Cameron County district attorney's office recommended the stronger charge. This was after they learned Petricioli allegedly failed a sobriety test.

Officers also reported smelling alcohol on his breath at the time of his arrest.

Police are still waiting on blood test results.
