HIDALGO COUNTY - A Pharr man who confessed to strangling his teenage girlfriend in 2005 could be sentenced tomorrow.

Jose Luis Cantu sits in a Hidalgo County jail cell. His fate is now in the hands of a jury.

Court adjourned Friday evening. Attorneys for both sides are re-presenting evidence in Cantu's case.

Experts and witnesses have been called to testify again after Cantu rejected a plea deal from the prosecution of 40 years in prison. Now it will be up to a Hidalgo County jury to decide Cantu's fate.

He could be released on parole or spend the rest of his life in prison.

Court is back in session tomorrow.
