Port Isabel - A local woman is dead after she was hit by a truck while trying to cross Highway 100.

The accident happened Tuesday night, killing 44 year-old Reina Hernandez Garcia.
The driver of a pick-up truck took off after the incident.

Residents in the area are worried about the heavy traffic and low visibility in the area.

"It's dangerous. I think we need another traffic light right there on that corner," Irene Cantu said.

Port Isabel police arrested 51 year-old Alejandro Petricoili.

He is charged with failure to stop and render aid.

Authorities say he may face more charges, pending the results of a blood and alcohol test.

He was found a short time after the accident at his residence.
