MATAMOROS, MEXICO - Three people are recovering after being shot during a gun battle near a Matamoros elementary school.
More than 100 students, teachers and parents were trapped at the Guerra de Villarreal campus while gunfire rang out on the streets.
The shootout took place was between Mexican military soldiers and armed gunmen near Colonia Juarez. The fighting lasted for almost 2 hours.
Officials say none of the people inside the school were hurt, but three pedestrians on the streets were hit by stray bullets. No word on their condition at this hour.
Authorities have not revealed what sparked the shooting.
