HIDALGO COUNTY - The shooting death of a man last week near San Carlos has been ruled a justified homicide.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño said the shooting stemmed from a love triangle involving Janie Rivera, 36, her ex-husband, Manuel Rodriguez, and Rivera's live-in boyfriend, Elias Valdez Taylor.
According to investigators, Rivera told Valdez to leave and her ex-husband moved back in. But Valdez snuck back in on the day of the murder, Trevino said.
Officials said the men struggled over a gun and Valdez was shot.
Treviño said Rodriguez shot Valdez in self defense and no charges will be filed.
