MISSION - A man is accused of assaulting a peace officer. The incident started after reports of shots fired in Mission overnight.
Police responded to the call. We're told that's when a man came up from behind them with a shovel and swung at them.
"They ordered him to put down the shovel. He refused. When he was close enough to them, the officers managed to get the shovel off of his hands and took him to the ground. And he began punching one of the officers," said Mission Police Department spokesperson Cpl. Manuel Casas.
The man was eventually taken into custody.
Meanwhile, officers are still investigating the original call about shots fired. Casas said the men involved fired into the air and covered their faces with bandanas. They left before police arrived at the scene.
