HIDALGO COUNTY - A man died Thursday after a traffic accident in La Joya.

The victim's brother also was in the car. He survived the crash.

The one-vehicle accident happened just after 4 p.m. near the intersection of South Garza and 9th streets.

A brother of the two men involved in the crash said the survivor is in a hospital.

"My brother is in the hospital; they're telling me he's fine. My other brother passed away in the crash," the man said.

He said it was rumored that the men were racing.

"It's not a racing problem; it was just an accident," the man said.

An eyewitness said he saw the red Firebird before it crashed.

"It was waving. It flew and it flipped like 10 times. It landed on its roof and bounced and ended up where it is. All the bodies were bouncing around. It was an ugly accident," Frank Alaniz said.
