SANTA ROSA - A man is facing attempted murder charges after he locked his ex-girlfriend in her car before setting it on fire, police said. The incident happened Sunday night in Santa Rosa.

The suspect doused the car with gasoline before setting it ablaze, police said. The woman escaped unharmed, officials said.

Officials said the flames spread to the woman's home. The car and house were destroyed in the blaze, fire officials said.

Police said a dog was killed in the fire.

"He kept pouring gasoline onto the car. She was trying to get out of the car at the time. He was pushing the door so she wouldn't get out of the car," Santa Rosa Police Officer Julian Villalobos said.

Police arrested the suspect on Monday. He will go before a judge on Tuesday.
