BROWNSVILLE - A man attending a probation drug rehabilitation program gets busted selling drugs to his classmates.

The Cameron County program has been in place since 2009. We are told this is the first person to get in trouble for this.

Police say Luis Zelaya was selling drugs after his drug rehabilitation class. Somebody called authorities. An investigation showed Zelaya attended his weekly class in the 138th district courtroom at the Cameron County courthouse.

His classmates told officers Zelaya then went outside and sold them drugs. The rehabilitation was a court-ordered program to help Zelaya overcome his addiction.

"He's supposed to be learning about not doing drugs. In this case, he was doing the contrary. He was actually selling the drugs," says Brownsville police detective Jose Trevino.

Officials from the divert program couldn't comment on the case. We found a psychologist who works with recovering drug addicts.

"It's really sad and bothers me a lot that some people take advantage of this situation and go and try to sell and make these people go back to the things they want to stay away from," says Julie Jaramillo with Palmer Drug Abuse Program.

Zelaya is back in jail, charged with possession. He's out of the drug diversion program, which was going to help him get off on a couple of other drug cases. Now authorities say that's off the board.
