Man suspected of shooting Dallas officer detained

DALLAS (AP) A 20-year-old man suspected of shooting a Dallas police officer has turned himself in and is being treated for injuries he suffered in the disturbance.

The Dallas Morning News reports Sunday (http://dallasne.ws/1oCuYdU ) that Rakeem Perkins turned himself in several hours after the Saturday shooting. The newspaper says he has been hospitalized and is being treated for injuries he incurred during the gunbattle.

Officer Joshua Burns remains at Baylor University Medical Center. The 30-year-old policeman is in stable condition and being treated for injuries that are not life-threatening.

Perkins opened fire on Burns and another officer when they responded to a complaint about a disturbance. The officers fired back, and Perkins fled on foot.
