RIO GRANDE CITY - A man wanted for a 2005 capital murder charge was just arrested, he was found in a group of people crossing the border illegally.
Jose Antonio Vera Jaimes was a suspect in a 2005 Capital Murder investigation in the McCook area where the victim, was kidnapped and killed. He was also the suspect in a 2006 Criminal Attempt Capital Murder investigation where the victim was kidnapped, shot in the face and left for dead.
U.S. Border Patrol agents detained a group of undocumented immigrants near the Rio Grande City area. Jaimes was in the group, he initially gave a false identity to agents. Further investigation revealed his correct identity and the outstanding warrants from the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office for Capital Murder, and Criminal Attempt Capital Murder.
Jaimes was detained and later taken into custody by Hidalgo County Sheriff Deputies and transported to the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center.
Jaimes is behind bars on a $1,500,000 bond.
