MATAMOROS - The streets of Matamoros are quiet today after five days of gun battles between cartel members and the Mexican military.
Residents reported the violence started on Wednesday and continued through Sunday. There have been reports of injuries.
The shootouts were the result of a power struggle within the Gulf drug cartel, officials said.
The U.S. consulate issued warnings of road blocks and battles throughout the city.
