AUSTIN - The Texas Attorney General's Office ruled that McAllen school officials must release information about the reassignment of a former coach.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS requested the information on former Coach Tony Harris' reassignment from McAllen High School head football coach to assistant director of maintenance.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS requested a copy of a grievance Harris filed after his reassignment. The request was made under the Open Records Act.
School district officials claimed they were exempt from the law because the information was part of litigation.
The attorney general's office said school officials did not establish that litigation was pending or that they anticipated litigation when they received the request for information.
School officials on Friday told CHANNEL 5 NEWS they have not received the attorney general's letter. They asked CHANNEL 5 NEWS to call back next week.
