MISSION - A Mission man on probation for DWI is back behind bars.
Police say Steve Rolando Vela, 20, crashed into a bank while driving drunk. Vela nearly killed himself in the crash, officials said.
Vela was charged on Tuesday with driving while intoxicated and evading arrest.
The crash happened on Jan. 26 at the IBC Bank branch at Bryan Road and Business 83.
Police said an officer spotted Vela's red Camaro traveling at high speeds before the crash. Vela ran several stop signs and red lights, officials said.
The officer attempted to stop Vela, but lost sight of the vehicle. Police later got a call about the crash.
Officers said Vela's car went airborne before slamming into the building.
Police said Vela's blood alcohol content was .23, which is more than twice the legal limit.
His bond was set at $250,000.
