OREGON - A one-time Brownsville resident who confessed to killing three people in Oregon will be held without bail.
The suspect, Jeffrey Cutlip, 63, was indicted in August in the deaths of Marlene Claire Carlson, 44, in 1975, Julie Marie Bennett, 15, in 1977, and Nielene Doll, 33, in 1993.
Cutlip's attorneys on Tuesday raised questions about his mental state. The lawyers also said there is little evidence linking the suspect to the cold cases.
Prosecutors said Cutlip's statements on how the victims died and where their bodies were discovered is enough evidence.
Cutlip confessed to Brownsville police in July. He said he wanted to give the families closure.
