BROWNSVILLE - The mother of a murder victim on Tuesday said a corrupt district attorney let her daughter's killer go free.
The woman made the statements during former Cameron County District Attorney Armando Villalobos' sentencing hearing.
The woman said Villalobos let her daughter's murderer go free without bond.
Amit Livingston was convicted of the murder in 2007. The judge in the case, former state District Judge Abel Limas, gave him 60 days to get his affairs in order before reporting to jail. Livingston never appeared.
Villalobos did not object to the release without bond, court records show. Prosecutors said it was part of a scheme to line Villalobos' pockets with money.
Villalobos was convicted of racketeering and extortion in 2013.
