WESLACO – Endangered and threatened species that are in the path of the border wall could be affected as the push for border security continues.

Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park is directly in the path of the border wall project.

A section of the wall is set to begin in February along the levee that runs through the park.

"The population is so small already and then you're dividing it in half, then you have A and B. They can't get to each other anymore, and the gene pool is getting smaller and smaller on each side,” explains visiting tourist Sara Harrison.

KRGV’s Christian von Preysing explains the growing concerns of the animals that could be cut off if the complete border wall is built.
