Neighborhood On Edge After Teen Shot in Weslaco

WESLACO - People in a neighborhood north of Weslaco are hesitant to talk to CHANNEL 5 NEWS after a shooting Friday night.

Sheriff's officials say the case is still under investigation.

They say a car ran into either a home, or a fence at the home, and that's when someone at the residence came out and shot at the car.

Deputies say a 16-year-old inside the car was struck by the gunfire.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS went to that small Weslaco neighborhood Saturday afternoon.

People are still shaken up.

The shooting happened Friday night right before 11pm at a home near the intersection of Mile 10 North and 4 1/2 West.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS went to several houses Saturday to to talk to people.

No one would go on camera. They said they are too afraid.

One woman said she heard a car drive down the dirt road and then two gun shots.

She said nothing like this has ever happened in the 26 years she's lived in the neighborhood.

She said she is considering moving out of the neighborhood.

A 16-year-old was shot in the neck and air-lifted to a local hospital.

Details about the shooting and his condition are still unknown.

Hidalgo County Sheriff's officials are handling the investigation.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS saw a patrol unit driving around the neighborhood Saturday afternoon.
