A new group of GEAR UP students are on their way to learning all about college. Letty Garza talked to one student in Raymondville who is making all the right moves.

You could call him a newbie...

In fact, these are all the new kids on the block at Myra Green Middle School in Raymondville.

Jesus Lopez is a brand new GEAR UP student, who by the way plays the tuba, tells us he loves the GEAR UP program and is already getting involved in school.

Jesus is not the first in the family to go to college. In fact, his mom is a college graduate and his sister attends college in California.

We asked him where he plans to attend college and tells us he still hasn't decided, but is looking into it.

"I'm looking forward to getting more ideas of where I want to go and more positive and clear of thinking where I would like to go," he says.

Jesus tells us he loves school and sounds like he's already ahead of the game.

He gets to the point about why he wants to GEAR UP for college. "So that whenever I need to do an essay in college, I won't be freaking out and will know what to do."
