New Monitor publisher son of former publisher

McALLEN, Texas (AP) Stephan T. Wingert was named Wednesday as publisher of The Monitor newspaper and as regional vice president responsible for all AIM Media Texas properties in the Rio Grande Valley.

The announcement was made jointly by Jeremy L. Halbreich, AIM Media chairman and chief executive officer, and Rick Starks, president and chief operating officer. The appointment is effective Nov. 5.

Wingert currently is regional vice president for the Pacific Region of Freedom Communications Inc. and publisher of the Daily Press/Desert Dispatch in Victorville, California. He previously served in a number of management roles at The Monitor, most recently as general manager from 2000 to 2004. His father, Larry, was publisher of The Monitor from 1977 to 1995.

AIM Media owns daily newspapers and their affiliated web sites in McAllen, Harlingen, Brownsville and Odessa, Texas, as well as a variety of weekly and monthly publications and related web-sites.
