Sabrina Garza Franco is the principal at Myra Green Middle School with the Raymondville ISD.
This school year she is tasked with two major projects...GEAR UP and STARR, the state's new assessment for all students in Texas. She says they are gearing up for STARR.
She says "the districts as far as I know, Raymondville ISD, we are partnering up with Region One ESC and we do attend workshops or meeting at Region One. We are doing a lot of discussions and communicating with other districts and one of the things we are taking charge of is that we providing more rigorous instruction in the classroom."
Franco says her teachers are getting the training they need for STARR.
One thing this principal wants to make sure of is that these students understand: STARR, unlike TAKS, will be timed.
"We are doing a lot of timed exams because one of the implications we are going to face with STARR is that it is a timed test," she says.
And this principal has a message for parents...get your students ready for STARR right now.
