EDINBURG - It's a day of remembrance at the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office. A large crowd joined law enforcement from all over the county for a police memorial ceremony.
The heads of several agencies read the names of officers killed in the line of duty. Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño says it's a day to honor, remember and give thanks.
"I ask the public to do this: You see a police officer at a stop light or driving down the road or in a shopping center, say hi to them, 'Hey, you guys are doing a good job,'" said the sheriff.
The city of Mission is planning to hold a similar event on Monday at 9 a.m. at the city's former police station. It's located on the 200 block of East Tom Landry. The public is invited to attend.
