CAMERON COUNTY - An Olmito resident says the overgrown weeds around the Rancho Viejo Resaca are keeping him from enjoying the wildlife in the area.
Maurice Parker, 82, has lived most of his life next to the resaca near FM 1732.
"It's ridiculous to have to go through all this stuff. It's ridiculous to have to get permission to do anything you want to do anymore," Parker said.
"We would like to come mow it and clean the brush or get somebody else to do it, one way or the other. We can't get anyone to approve it without a bunch of money spent," Parker said.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS called the Texas Department of Transportation to find out why they have not moved the grass next to the resaca. TxDOT officials said the grass must be at least 2 feet tall before they send a crew to the site.
Parker said that explanation isn't acceptable.
"I think it would look a 100 percent better. I think the town would get a kick out of it since we feed the ducks and the animals. It would look a lot nicer," Parker said.
