SALINAS, CA - Pacific International Marketing recalled 19 units of Romaine lettuce, after a sample tested positive for Salmonella in a field test.

No illnesses have been reported to date. The source of contamination is unknown.

The Romaine was in bulk plastic containers, not cartons or bags. The Romaine heads are banded with a red twist tie that says "Safeway" and were only distributed in California and Arizona to Vons or Pavilion stores.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
