BROWNSVILLE - Parents at Egly Elementary School and Oliveria Middle School are upset. They say there aren't enough parking spaces, and police started issuing tickets to those who park on the fire lane.
Janet Hernandez said she waits in front of Oliveira school to pick up her daughter. The school is located across the street from Egly elementary.
"My fear ... is they (drive) very fast. ... It's always chaotic with the cars," Hernandez said.
A fire lane outlines the majority of the parking in front of the middle school. Parents must park across the street to pick up their children.
Many parents said they should be allowed to park in the red zones.
"We are only here 15 to 20 minutes. We are not here selling anything. We are not here damaging anything," Monica Lozano said.
Brownsville Independent School District officials said they are aware of the problem, and they are trying to find a solution.
Parents said they hope a solution is found before an accident happens.
