RYE, N.Y. (AP) An 86-year-old landmark north of New York City where part of the movie "Big" was filmed is in trouble.
Playland is the nation's largest government-run amusement park and has been a money loser for suburban Westchester County for years. Attendance has dropped hugely in recent years, and a grand plan to revamp the park is a year behind schedule.
No one is predicting that Playland will have to close anytime soon. But Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino now running for governor has often said the status quo can't continue.
The renovation plan was supposed to make Playland more of a year-round destination by adding a field house and athletic fields. But it has been caught up in local politics and opposition from neighbors.
