HOUSTON (AP) Houston oil magnate and philanthropist Jack S. Blanton has died.

Blanton died Saturday at his vacation home in Galveston, Texas, according to his son-in-law, Peter Waering. He was 86.

A Shreveport, La., native, Blanton received his undergraduate and law degrees at the University of Texas. He then started working at the Scurlock Oil Company in Houston, rising to chairman. He was also president of Eddy Refining Company.
