LUBBOCK - A 2-year-old reported missing from a home in the Lubbock area was found dead in the basement of her caretaker's home.
Leah Marie Aguirre had been missing since Jan. 3. An Amber Alert was issued Tuesday.
Police said they found Leah's body in Matilda Almaraz's home in Crossby. The town is about 40 miles east of Lubbock.
Authorities said the mother was under investigation by Child Protective Services. They said she tried selling the child to someone in Mexico.
The child was given to a caretaker.
Almaraz has been arrested on capital murder charges.
