WESLACO - Police are trying to determine how two syringes ended up at a city park, just steps away from a playground.
"That's pretty disgusting," Weslaco resident Jessica Leal said.
A CHANNEL 5 NEWS editor saw the syringes and called police.
"This is something that our first responders, our front-line officers, come across frequently," Weslaco Police Spokesman J.P. Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez used latex gloves to pick up the syringes at Rodriguez Park.
"Definitely don't want to touch them without gloves," he said.
Rodriguez said more patrols will be dispatched to the area.
"If we do find syringes in a certain area ... we'll concentrate on extra patrolling. If necessary, (we will do) some surveillance to see if there is any suspicious activity or drug activity," he said.
