Police Say Driver Tried to Avoid Pedestrian

HARLINGEN - The driver who hit a woman Thursday morning on Loop 499 in Harlingen tried to avoid the accident and stopped to help, police said.
The pedestrian, Elida Briseno, 31, died at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen shortly after 7 a.m.
Police said Briseno was walking through the intersection at Breedlove and Loop 499 when she was struck.
Investigators said the driver had a green light when the accident happened.
No charges have been filed in the case.
