McALLEN - Police today said a shooting that sent two women to a hospital was an accident. Official paperwork, however, states the incident was the result of deadly conduct.
Two people remain in custody. One of them is a juvenile.
"Whether or not it ends up as an accidental shooting remains to be seen," said Judge Jesse Contreras.
He said the Hidalgo County District Attorney's Office will make that decision. Until then, the judge has ordered a home evaluation to find out how the 14-year-old got the gun.
Residents at the home where the incident occurred refused to speak about the shooting.
McAllen police aren't saying much about the incident either. Today they released a statement saying that the teen shot two women and that the victims are recovering. They said officers arrested the teenager and Brian Ariel Bazan, who was charged with making a firearm accessible to a child.
Bazan is being held on $3,000 bond. The teen will remain in juvenile detention until charges are dropped or the judge decides he can go home. His next court date is Aug. 23.
